NYCC 2015

NYCC 2015It’s hard to believe how fast time flies- but it’s already that time of year, time for the one and only New York Comic Con! This is my sixth year attending NYCC (I’m starting to feel old!) and it still amazes me how much this convention has grown over the years. I remember when you could just walk up to the convention and buy tickets, which is such a huge difference compared to today when the whole convention sells out in a matter of hours. Unfortunately, as the convention continues to grow, the anime content always seems to get less and less each year. For someone who really only cares about Anime & other similar media, NYCC does seem to be getting less and less relevant. But even so, it’s simply a convention that I can’t find myself missing, and I always seem to have a good time regardless.

IMG_7737This particular Comic Con was especially different for me, as this year I had the amazing opportunity to work at the Goodsmile Company booth! I’ve never had the experience of working a booth at a convention, so it was really interesting to see the sort of ‘behind the scenes’ view of a convention. While it does mean ‘working’ for the majority of the convention, as you can imagine I’m such a huge fan of GSC and their products that it really didn’t feel like work at all.

NYCC 2015 Honnouji AcademyOn top of working the booth, I was honored to have my Honnouji Academy set on display inside one of the display cases! Since GSC brought a bunch of Kill la Kill merchandise with them this year, it seemed fitting to have a little diorama to compliment all the Kill la Kill figures they had.

NYCC 2015 Kill la Kill displayObviously being one of the biggest Kill la Kill nerds on the planet, I was super excited to be able to bring along my display and see it being used 😀

NYCC 2015 GSC BoothI must say while it definitely wore me down a bit towards the end (Five full days of Comic Con would probably take a toll on anyone I guess ^^), it was super cool to be able to talk figures with all sorts of different people. Discussing figure collecting with other like-minded people is always a great experience, especially if they were also Kill la Kill fans!

IMG_7676Since I was mostly working the booth, I didn’t really have too much time to walk around and see all the vendors. That being said, I didn’t really feel like I missed much this year since it seems like there are a lot of the same vendors that are here every year. Also there aren’t really too many vendors selling anime merchandise so the amount of booths that I’m really interested in are sort of limited.

NYCC 2015But even so, one of the benefits of working a booth is that you get to get in early! This means no crowd, and you can easily see most of the show floor in a fraction of the time compared to the middle of the day. It’s so crazy to see the exhibit hall so empty, usually the place is quite literally packed full of people with little room to move around.

NYCC 2015 Satsuki CosplayNormally I try to walk around and take cosplay pictures while I’m at conventions, but honestly I didn’t really take any cosplay photos this year at NYCC. Here are some quick snaps I took of some cosplayers that stopped by the booth over the weekend, starting off with a Satsuki!

NYCC 2015 Card Captor Sakura CosplayThis is probably the most adorable Sakura cosplay I’ve ever seen ^^. After we spotted her, we went over and gave her the Sakura nendoroid as a present. Hope she likes her new nendoroid!

NYCC 2015 Goodsmile BoothOverall, after working the booth for five days, I must say I was completely exhausted. Would I do it again? Absolutely! This is probably the most memorable NYCC I’ve ever had over the past few years, and I got to work with an amazing team of awesome people which made it so much more enjoyable. Being a figure fanatic and working with the people who help make the figures I frequently buy is just such an inspiring experience, and I hope that I get the opportunity to work with everyone again sometime in the future.

I also got to meet so many amazing people while hanging at the booth, even got to meet with some fans of my crazy figure photos as well ^^. Thanks to anyone who stopped by, it was great meeting you!

If you made it to NYCC this year (which this year was a bit of a challenge due to ticketing), I hope you had fun! Hope to see you again next year!

  1. That looks like lots of fun! Hopefully, I can go to NYCC next year! I’ve never been to a convention with a GSC booth, so that would be so cool. It must’ve been really great to work with all of those people! I’d love to meet them.
