2013: Year in Review

2013 Year in Review

Happy new year! Hope you all had a great year in 2013. The new year provides a great opportunity to look back and reflect as well as look ahead on what you want to accomplish in the new year. I’m going to use this post as an opportunity to look back and see all the things I did in the past year.

Nendoroid photos early 2013

2013 was when I really started to get into figure photography more. While at the beginning of the year I stuck with just taking pictures of nendoroids from the comfort of my desk, I knew it was time to push myself. Sitting at my desk taking photos became a bit too repetitive and boring, so it was time to mix things up.

Nendoroid Asuna

One thing I started to do was use my photoshop skills to edit and add to my photos, which was a lot of fun! It definitely helps when making cover photos for my posts, etc.

Shiozaki Haruno

Once the warm weather hit, I decided that it was time to start bringing my figures outdoors and doing photo shoots. This was the first one I did in 2013, featuring Shiozaki Haruno. When I finished the photo shoot I ended up really loving the pictures, which made me want to push myself to go out and do more.

Summer made for the perfect weather to go outside and take photos! It was also around this time in 2012 that I got my first ‘official’ camera, so it’s been about a year and a half since I plunged into photography. While I still consider myself an amateur, I’m always trying to improve my photos which is one of my major goals for 2014.

Went and did a night photo shoot for the first time.

2013 Figure Photos

The more I went out to photograph my figures the more comfortable I became taking them out in public. Right now the weather here is really cold, but I definitely want to get out even more this year to do more photo shoots.

2013 also ushered in some changes to the blog in the form of a much needed update to the theme.

Myfigurecollection profile

Besides updating the look of the blog, it was time to try share my photos more often with other figure community websites. I began uploading photos Myfigurecollection, Deviantart, and TokyoOtakuMode. Spending more time on community websites allowed me to meet other hobbyists as well as find some new inspiration for photos.

Otaku Desk 2013

Collection wise, 2013 was a good year! In the past year I’ve added around 20 nendoroids and 14 PVC figures to the family. With more figures came an increased need for more storage, so I also upgraded my desk a bit.

NYCC Attack on Titan Cosplay

Towards the end of 2013 we had the annual New York Comic Con, which was loads of fun! One thing I would love to accomplish in 2014 is to see if I can travel around and attend more conventions.

Suzuha NYC

Overall, 2013 was a great year. I hope you all had a good year as well, and hopefully 2014 is even better!!

Thanks for all your support!
